Garment Production

Planet: Regulation to support degrowth models and reduce inventory of new clothing, and incentivise onshoring and sustainable production across the world through tax breaks and funding support.

People: Expedite modern slavery legislation and regulation, and legislation to introduce a garment trade adjudicator to eliminate poor working conditions across the world.

Distribution

Planet: Legislation across the world to responsibly manage textiles abandoned at customs, regulation and accountability for the decarbonisation of transportation, investment in biofuels infrastructure, and the elimination of airfreight.

People: Investment in a zero carbon economy to protect the health of humans across the world.

Retail

Planet: Legislation of Extended Producer Responsibility to address the waste within the textile value chain, and support for on-demand models for the reduction of inventory and ultimately waste. Investment to support local and national sustainable business solutions.

People: Legislation to embed traceability and transparency with the implementation of QR eco-labelling showing legacy of the entire supply chain and impact of the products.

Use

Planet: Investment in holistic education on the impact of our actions and clothing decisions, including practical skills development in schools.

People: We call on YOU as a consumer to repair what you wear; value secondhand; rent or share garments; buy less, buy better; ask who made your clothes and how much they were paid; only support brands who are ethical and transparent; and responsibly recycle your clothing.

End of Life

Planet: Legislation of Extended Producer Responsibility to address the end of life waste, and investment and support in closed-loop systems and national infrastructures to simplify textile recycling for the consumer.

People: Regulation to stop governments and brands passing on the responsibility and damaging impacts of their own textile waste to ‘receiving’ communities in the Global South, and investment in these communities to implement waste processing solutions.
